Writing Yourself a Love Letter

Writing a Love Letter to Yourself

Why you should write one

By writing a love letter to yourself, you can achieve many things at once. You have the opportunity to fully write out the things that you appreciate about yourself and your life. You can also write things you would like to forgive yourself for. This is a space for you to emotionally release things that are on your mind and show compassion and unconditional love to yourself. This is important to do especially if you are feeling down about your life or an aspect of yourself. In this space, you can also manifest your dream life or career. It is the time to focus and hone down on what
YOU truly want for yourself.

Dear me,

Write the introduction as you would write any letter. While most of us do not write formal letters daily, all you need to know is how you want to address yourself. You can even write to a name you feel more comfortable having more than your current one.

After you introduce yourself, you can write how you are feeling as of now. Update your future self on what is going on in your life currently since you will most likely refer back to this letter years after you write it.

Express your doubts, mistakes and insecurities

This next part may be the most difficult for some. You may become emotional when writing out what you feel insecure, unworthy and doubtful in. It is important that you let these feelings come to you and if you feel safe enough to, even address them in the letter.

There are many things you can write about and release yourself from. Whether you write about what dreams you are afraid of not achieving, to something you would want to change about yourself. However, it is important to reassure yourself in the letter that despite these things that make you feel badly about yourself, you are capable, strong, worthy and beautiful in every way. It is human to feel insecure and doubtful, but it is natural to need to reassure yourself that regardless of these thoughts. Know that you are capable of achieving anything you want.

Manifest and reflect

This is my personal favorite part of writing a love letter to yourself. All you need to do is truly think and reflect on what your dreams are in life. This can deal with career, personal, love, anything you want to achieve.

Simply write about it as if you have already achieved them and recognize that even if you did not have them, your life would be fulfilled. If you manifest out of a place of lack, it will most likely not come true. However, if you manifest from a place of fulfillment, and simply looking for the next step, your dreams will come true.

You can also use this space to write to yourself what you appreciate and love about yourself. This is crucial to writing yourself a love letter because otherwise it is not focused on what you love about yourself. Again, write as if you know you will not read this letter again until years after it is already written. Think about what you love yourself for. Although if you are at a place in your life where you are filled with self-doubt and self-hatred, this can be difficult to write. Take the time to really reflect on what you are grateful for. Here are some ideas of what you can address that you love about yourself.

I love that I…
- Am selfless, with a heart that truly feels for others
- Unconditionally love others
- Always bounce back when something gets in my way
- Am powerful, with the strength to achieve anything
- Can count on myself

There are so many more things that you can be thankful for about yourself. Realizing your strengths and weaknesses, and then loving yourself unconditionally for everything about you is powerful.
